🌾 Soil note Most US clay/loam soils run slightly alkaline (pH 6.5-7.5). Most vegetables grow fine without amendment. Blueberries are the exception — they NEED pH 4.5-5.5 and require sulfur + peat + ammonium sulfate amendments. Test soil before amending. Apply lime in fall for spring planting; sulfur takes 3-6 months to fully react.
